About the role

The Staff Psychiatrist manages behavioral health care through diagnosis, treatment, and the administration of psychotherapeutic medications. They collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and provide oversight for behavioral health staff and treatment plans.

Essential job duties

  • 1.
  • Manages behavioral health care including diagnosis, treatment, and follow up.
  • Prescribes, directs, and administers psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders. (50%) 2.
  • Collaborates with providers, social workers, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress. (10%) 3.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation on patient clinical records. (20%) 4.
  • Participates in GLBHC’s Quality Assurance activities as assigned. (10%) 5.
  • Provides behavioral health staff oversight.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of counseling or treatment plans and the accuracy and completeness of diagnoses and modifies diagnoses and treatment plans as necessary. (10%)

Marginal job duties

1. Assists in marketing and public relations, including recruitment of providers as needed. 2. Performs other functions relating to GLBHC’s behavioral health program as may be required. 3. Performs other duties as assigned by President/CEO and Medical Director.

Job specifications

1.

Education

The Staff Psychiatrist must have an MD or DO from an accredited medical school and be able to produce evidence of such. Residency completion in Psychiatry. Board eligible. Board certified. BLS required. 2.

Licensure

Must be licensed by the State of Michigan and be Board Certified. Possesses valid DEA license. 3.

Experience

1-2 years in underserved area preferred. 4.

  • Effort: Must be able to sit, stand, and or walk for an entire workday. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and or twist while holding up to 25 lbs occasionally. 7.

Hours

Full-time or Part-time, Monday through Friday. Flexible and varied. 8.

Travel

Some travel between sites required. Travel may be required in order to attend pertinent conferences; with travel, lodging, and living costs reimbursed at the existing rate of the corporation. Reimbursement for expenses will occur in accordance with GLBHC policy.

Requirements

Candidates must hold an MD or DO from an accredited medical school, complete a Psychiatry residency, and be Board Certified. A valid State of Michigan license, DEA license, and BLS certification are required.
