About the role

Performs routine analytical laboratory testing and processes biological specimens under general supervision. Responsible for monitoring quality control and performing preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment.

Job Summary: Performs routine laboratory testing under general supervision.

Minimum Education: Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: National certification exam as a laboratory scientist that is accredited by an approved agency preferred.

Work Experience: 1 year lab experience with high complexity testing preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

PC skills needed for efficient computer utilization. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to organize work in an effective and efficient manner. Ability to be detail oriented in the examination of clinical and numerical data. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Collect and process biological specimens and other substances. Performs and reports routine analytical tests under direction of medical technologist, recognizing factors that affect procedures and results, and taking appropriate actions within predetermined limits when corrections are indicated. Perform and monitor quality control within predetermined limits. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment under direction of medical technologist. Supports laboratory goals by demonstrating teamwork, service excellence, adhering to established guidelines and policies. Looks for ways to improve processes. Works with medical laboratory science students during educational laboratory activities. Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established. Working Relationships: Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Special Job Dimensions: None. Requirements

Requires an associate degree in a science or medical laboratory field. Preference is given to candidates with national certification and one year of experience in high complexity testing.
