About the role

The role involves managing confidential case files and developing individualized treatment plans for clients with substance use disorders. Apprentices will perform intake assessments and provide orientation to facility programs under supervisory guidance.

Oriana House is excited to be a participating employer in Lorain County Community College's Ohio Behavioral Health Apprenticeship Program.

What is the Ohio Behavioral Health Apprenticeship Program?

  • This unique program, developed in collaboration with Lorain County Community College, Ohio Alliance of Recovery Providers (OARP), ApprenticeOhio, and the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health, offers a comprehensive pathway to a career in behavioral health. Starting as a Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA), participants can ultimately work towards an Associate Degree and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor II (LCDCII) licensure. Participants in this program earn $15/hour to start and advance to $18/hour as they complete their on-the-job training.
  • Intensive, expert-lead instruction, coursework, and on-the-job training to learn every aspect of the job and field of work
  • Secure college credit toward an Associate Degree from Lorain County Community College
  • Earn your licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor II (LCDCII)
  • Financial assistance available to help cover tuition costs

Essential functions of this job include, but are not limited to

Completes a learning and professional development plan with a supervisor as a requirement of the Ohio State Apprenticeship Council.

Maintains attendance and successful completion of courses (Related Instruction) with designated educational institution of the Apprenticeship program.

Prepares and maintains a confidential, accurate, organized, and updates case file for each assigned mentor and appropriate supervision.

Complies with documentation requirements , including deadlines and accuracy, as outlined in program policies, protocols, and procedures for activities (e.g., assessments, treatment plans, and treatment procedures) and in the preparation of required report.

Assists supervisor/designee with determining a client's appropriateness for services using the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders/ICD criteria and American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) dimensions and risk ratings.

Assists with intake as necessary (e.g., consent for treatment, consents to release information, initial assessment, etc.) and maintains this documentation in the electronic health record.

Effectively orients clients to the facility/program(s) as needed by providing information including, but not limited to: rule infractions that may result in termination, hours of service availability, client's rights and grievance procedure, and costs for which they may be responsible.

Uses the appropriate forms and instrumentation to screen and/or assess, under supervision, client's strengths and weaknesses and gathers relevant information pertaining to diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment recommendations.

Develops in collaboration with the client, and under mentor/supervisory direction, an Individualized Treatment Plan that addresses identified problems and needs associated with their substance use disorder. During the Treatment Planning Process, ranks problems identified in the assessment, establishes immediate and long term goals, and determines the treatment intervention(s) and resources to be utilized.

Qualifications

Must be approved and selected by Ohio State Apprenticeship Council as an apprentice. High School diploma or equivalent and CDCA (Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant) or agreement to obtain a CDCA within program timeframe required. Current enrollment in an academic program that will prepare the candidate for certification or licensure as a chemical dependency professional. Maintains the required certification in good standing. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with regulations governing the disclosure of client information and storage of client's records required. Must adhere to the Counselor's Code of Ethics. Must demonstrate a positive attitude working with individuals receiving behavioral health care, including establishing professional rapport with clients. Must have the ability to effectively work with Agency employees, outside contacts, and a diverse client population.
