What You Will Do The Endoscopy Technician is responsible for performing a variety of direct patient care activities and assisting with endoscopic procedures under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and Gastroenterologist. Responsibilities include assisting patients, staff and physicians as needed to maintain a high level of operational efficiency, patient data management through transcription and documentation, and customer service while providing quality care to designated patient population. Supports best use of resources in management on equipment, supplies, and other department resources.

  • Required Qualifications H.S. Diploma or Equivalent 1 Year Medical Assistant experience in related clinical area. AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association

1 Year endoscopy lab experience.

Other Qualification Requirements Certificate of completion of ASGE Endoscopy Technician training program is required within 90 days of hire. Program completion and renewal to be tracked and maintained by the department.

  • Essential Functions Equipment Maintenance Accurate and efficiently provides high level disinfection of all endoscopes/washers based on ASGE, manufacturer guidelines, and established Sharp Policy and Procedure.
  • Maintains quality logbook documentation for regulatory compliance. (Measured and monitored through observation by direct supervisor and QA book audits).
  • Department Efficiency and Effectiveness Organizes and completes daily requirements and responsibilities within time frames.
  • Ensures optimal workflow by assisting in transfers of patients as necessary; fosters efficient turnaround of rooms.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies and may assist with ordering supplies and restocking rooms.
  • Maintains appropriate supply levels.
  • Cost conscious in usage.
  • Collaborates with departmental leadership to maintain equipment, and supply costs within fiscal budget.
  • Completes department inventories per guidelines and participates in and prepares for site inspections and inventories.
  • Monitors patient flow, physician schedules and completes daily tasks to ensure quality and service standards.
  • Ensures readiness of reports and information to maximize patient visit.
  • Completes work within assigned hours.
  • Responds to changing circumstances and prioritize patient needs.
  • Responds to urgent and emergent situations in a calm and capable manner.
  • Telephone Message Management- Ensures prompt and efficient return of messages according to established policy.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves problem calls.
  • Enters authorizations and schedules surgeries and procedures in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist in other departments as assigned to meet staffing needs and travels to other sites as business needs arise.
  • Completes duties within time frames, maintains equipment and supplies, may assist with ordering supplies, restock rooms; ensures optimal workflow by assisting in transfers of patients as necessary; fosters efficient turnaround of rooms.
  • Serves as a departmental resource for areas of endoscope reprocessing and equipment maintenance.
  • Patient Care Accurately and efficiently performs patient care activities under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Is proficient in assisting the gastroenterologist during endoscopic procedures. (Measured and monitored through direct observation by immediate supervisor and gastroenterologist feedback).

Requirements

Requires a high school diploma, one year of Medical Assistant experience, and AHA BLS certification. Completion of an ASGE Endoscopy Technician training program is required within 90 days of hire.
