About the role

The Occupational Therapist provides assessments, treatment planning, and rehabilitative services to individuals receiving behavioral health services. The role focuses on improving functional, cognitive, and independent living skills through interdisciplinary collaboration and person-centered interventions.

Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist provides assessment, treatment planning, and rehabilitative support services to individuals receiving behavioral health services through OCHN. This role evaluates functional, cognitive, sensory, emotional, and independent living needs to support recovery, community integration, and overall quality of life. The Occupational Therapist collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized recommendations and interventions that support behavioral health treatment goals and functional outcomes.

Essential Job Functions

Clinical Assessment & Evaluation (50%)

Receive referrals and conduct intake activities for occupational therapy services.

Complete functional and occupational therapy assessments to evaluate cognitive, emotional, sensory, behavioral, and independent living needs including making findings or recommendations regarding such assessments.

Identify barriers impacting daily functioning, recovery, and community integration.

Develop individualized recommendations and intervention plans based on assessment findings and person-centered goals.

Therapeutic Intervention & Skill Development (30%)

Provide occupational therapy interventions and rehabilitative support services aligned with treatment goals.

Support the development of daily living, coping, emotional regulation, sensory integration, and community functioning skills.

Assist individuals in improving independence and participation in home, community, and vocational environment

Care Coordination & Collaboration (10%)

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, care coordinators, medical providers, families, and community partners to support integrated treatment planning.

Participate in case consultations, treatment planning meetings, and care coordination activities.

Coordinate referrals and follow-up recommendations for additional services and supports, as appropriate including completion of inspections where required of requested modifications

Documentation, Compliance & Quality (10%)

Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation in accordance with organizational, Medicaid, and regulatory requirements.

Complete required billing and service documentation within established timeframes.

Participate in quality improvement activities, trainings, audits, and other organizational initiatives, as assigned.

Job Requirements and Qualifications: Specify required or preferred:

Education & Training

• Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program required.

Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of occupational therapy experience preferred.
  • Experience in behavioral health, rehabilitation, integrated healthcare, or community mental health preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness, intellectual/developmental disabilities, co-occurring conditions, or substance use disorders preferred.

Licensure/Certification

Current Occupational Therapist (OT) license in the State of Michigan required.

National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification preferred.

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

Knowledge of occupational therapy principles, rehabilitation practices, and functional assessment methodologies.

Ability to assess behavioral health-related functional limitations and develop individualized interventions.

Strong clinical documentation and organizational skills.

Ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism, empathy, and sound judgment.

All positions at OCHN require the ability to perform routine workplace activities, which may include: sitting, standing, walking, communicating, using standard office technology, and moving throughout OCHN facilities and community locations.

  • Must have available means of transportation to and from OCHN and for required off site meetings or site visits.
  • Must be available for trainings, meetings, and events which may occur outside of standard office hours.
  • Work performed primarily in an office environment.
  • Hybrid (onsite/remote) work schedule occasionally available.
