Job Summary

Provides dental hygiene services to patients.

Responsibilities: and Duties

1.

Provides preventative dental care to patients in consultation with dentist.

1.

Performs dental prophylaxis and/or scaling and root planing.

2.

Performs periodontal probing.

3.

Performs fluoride treatment and applies dental sealants as appropriate.

4.

Exposes and processes dental radiographs.

5.

Provides oral hygiene education to patients.

6.

Administers local dental anesthetic if certified.

7.

Documents clinical encounters in electronic health record (EHR) within timelines in established policies and procedures.

8.

Seats and discharges patients, cleans and disinfects operatory between patients.

9.

Adheres to established scheduling templates in provision of patient care.

2.

Participates in quality metrics directives and departmental quality improvement (QI) projects.

1.

Maintains current knowledge of quality initiatives by regularly attending the practitioners’, clinical site and practice meetings, and reviewing internal communications and resources.

2.

Complies with Clinical Quality Measures expectations.

3.

Modifies workflows as determined by department to attain QI objectives.

4.

Consistently documents activities related to QI objectives.

Supports dental operations.

1.

Assists chair side in delivery of dental treatment when staffing demands require.

2.

Participates in outreach and dental education programs as assigned.

3.

Assists Practice Manager with maintaining stock/monitoring hygiene supplies.

4.

Cleans and sterilizes dental instruments.

Qualifications: and Skills

Associate's Degree in Dental Hygiene. Current licensure as a Dental Hygienist in good standing with the North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Requirements

Candidates must possess an Associate's Degree in Dental Hygiene and hold current licensure as a Dental Hygienist in good standing with the North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners. A current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is also mandatory for this position.
