Overview

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S.

Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals.

Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

The Spiritual Care Services department is made up of four service lines: Chaplaincy, Chaplaincy Education, Palliative Care Consult Services and Ethics Committee support.

Each of these service lines participates within the healthcare interdisciplinary teams at Barnes-Jewish Hospital with the goal of healing body, mind and spirit.

Department personnel are comprised of Board Certified Professional Chaplains, Chaplain Director, ACPE Chaplain Supervisor, Chaplain Manager, Chaplain Residents, Contractual Chaplains, Medical Director and physician of Palliative Care Consult Services, Palliative Care Nurse Practitioners, Social Workers, Administrative Assistants and medical, chaplaincy, social work, nursing students rotating through these services.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose Provides Spiritual Care Services for patients, families and staff and is a resource to Catholic patients, families and staff regarding sacramental ministries. Celebrates Mass as scheduled. Assists with coordinating the Volunteer Eucharistic Ministers. Assists with coordinating Contractual Priest services as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provides sacramental and supportive ministries for Roman Catholic patients, their families, hospital staff and physicians. Coordinates and provides spiritual care services for Roman Catholics. Provides regular and Holy Day Mass and other worship opportunities for Roman Catholic patients, their families, hospital staff and physicians as scheduled in conjunction with the department. Identifies spiritual dynamics specific to patients, families and staff who are facing the health challenges. Minimum Requirements Education Master's Degree
  • Theology/related Experience <2 years Supervisor Experience No Experience Licenses & Certifications 1 Unit ACPE CPE or equiv Special Ministry Endorsement Roman Catholic Priest Preferred Requirements Licenses & Certifications 4 Units ACPE CPE/Bd eligible Organ/Tissue Donation Request
