Perform high-quality noninvasive diagnostic vascular ultrasound examinations for patients in an outpatient clinic. Manage patient preparation, medical history, and the entry of data into RIS and PACS systems.
Requires a high school diploma, a physics course, and a current New Mexico Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy license. Must be RVT certified, with ARDMS in Abdomen and Ob/Gyn preferred, and hold a current CPR certification.
Performs diagnostic vascular ultrasound examinations for patients. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Assists patients and places them in appropriate positions for the operation of equipment. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 vision to operate equipment and review Studies. Typical Working Conditions Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment
Prepares patient for examination including taking a medical history and answering questions about the exam. Performs ultrasound examinations. Completes RIS, and PACS entries. Complies with company and department polices, protocols, and procedures. Performs required QA/QC procedures when assigned. Follows prescribed safety standards in operating Ultrasound equipment. Responsible for care and safety of patients during the exam. Maintains radiologic equipment and examination rooms. Stocks necessary medical and radiologic supplies. Performs the duties of a sonographer; maintains and utilizes technical skills at an optimal level. Participates in staff development and educational activities including attendance at required meetings and participating in committees as requested. Maintains required credentials and licensing. Adheres to the ARDMS and/or ARRT Standard of Ethics. Additional duties as assigned. QualificationsPerformance Requirements Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of ultrasound Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology to determine the area of imaging Knowledge of techniques associated with quality ultrasound imaging Skill to properly position patients to provide high-quality ultrasound exams Knowledge of ultrasound equipment operation and testing Ability to acquire a working knowledge of RIS system, EPIC EMR, PACS Change, Qgenda, and PenRad. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment Ability to anticipate and react calmly to emergencies. Ability to note findings and prepare correspondence. Ability to provide guidance, instruction, and mentoring to students and staff. Skill to establish effective working relationships with patients, visitors, and staff. Ability to identify and resolve problems using good judgment. Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and professional manner. Skill to troubleshoot equipment operation and perform simple adjustments. Ability to apply written guidelines and standardized work practices. Education High school diploma or equivalent. Completed a graded general, medical, or sonographic college, post-secondary or higher education physics class (with a grade of C or above). Experience One to three years of experience as a sonographer preferred or recommendation from a training program. Certificate/License Must be RVT and preferred ARDMS in Abdomen and Ob/Gyn. If not registered, must pass each modality within the time frame specified at date of hire. Current license with the New Mexico Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Program. Current CPR certification or obtained within three months of date of hire.
