The Scribe is responsible for accurately documenting medical visits and procedures in the EMR to increase physician efficiency. They also manage patient flow by preparing exam rooms and assisting with testing.
Requires a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of related experience or training. Proficiency in medical terminology, EMR systems, and Microsoft Office is essential.
SUMMARY The primary goal of a Scribe is to increase the efficiency and productivity of the Physician they are working for. This employee allows the Doctor to focus on what is most important, the patient.
Working knowledge of medical terminology and accepted abbreviations. Efficient in using EMR and ability to accurately record information. Good typing, spelling, grammar and oral communication skills. Communication skills and the ability to coordinate and cooperate with multiple members of the health care team. Organizational skills with focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow. Must comply with HIPAA confidentiality standards when communicating patient information. Provides excellent patient care and is energetic and empathetic with patients. Consistently displays positive rapport with fellow employees. Cooperates with supervisory staff and Physicians. Demonstrates flexibility in job assignment.
LICENSES AND CREDENTIALS Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) certification is preferred, but not required.
SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY Requires proficient keyboarding skills, use of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and image management system. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook. Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications.
