Operates echocardiograph diagnostic equipment and maintains echocardiographic laboratory.
Essential Functions - Understands and satisfies the needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patient in regards to their growth and development process. - Operates echocardiographic equipment according to procedure, in order to produce diagnostic studies. - Competent in basic transthoracic echo; B-Mode (para-sternal, apical, subcostal and supra-sternal views) and Doppler (including color). - Explains echocardiography procedure process to patients, parents as necessary. - Prepares preliminary echocardiography report for cardiologist interpretation.
Reviews studies with cardiologist. - Maintains lab and equipment in clean and proper working order for maximum function - Records pertinent patient information in echo logbooks.
Completes hospital billing process for patient billing by use of EPIC. - Demonstrates progressive analytical skills and ability to work independently and accurately in performing diagnostic echocardiograph study in order to prove underlying cardiac pathology to cardiologists who interpret results within 2 years of hire. - Along with the mentoring Level II echo tech, maintain a log of progression of congenital heart echoes to demonstrate competencies and train for board certification.
Experience: - Previous echocardiographic experience in a pediatric setting required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires job knowledge acquired through a high school education plus two years of advanced education in echocardiography. - Requires registration as a Pediatric ECHO Tech within 2 years of date of hire, if not prior to hire. - Analytical skills required to perform basic diagnostic echocardiograph studies, which demonstrate underlying cardiac pathology to cardiologists who interpret results. These skills will be expected to progress within 2 years of hire to include identification of all congenital heart disease anatomy. Attention to detail is essential in order to avoid danger to patients. - Interpersonal skills necessary in order to interact effectively with physicians, families, patients and students. Ability to elicit cooperation form children in order to complete studies is desired. - Ability to push heavy (300 - 400 pounds) equipment through the hospital. Echo machine is on wheels to support easier movement. Licenses and Certifications: - BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required - ARDMS-Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer - The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography required - RCS-Registered Cardiac Sonographer - Cardiovascular Credentialing International required Patient Care Responsibility
