The Therapy Aide assists therapists with patient transfers, positioning, and therapeutic activities to support the rehabilitation process. Additionally, they maintain the cleanliness of the department and manage the maintenance of wheelchairs and durable medical equipment.
Candidates must possess or obtain BLS certification within the first 90 days of employment. Previous hospital experience as a therapy aide is preferred.
Under the direction of a therapist, the therapy aide assists patients in the rehabilitation process through provision of assigned activities. The therapy aide also prepares and maintains equipment and physical environment for daily activities. Performs patient related tasks assigned by therapist, including but not limited to:a. Assist therapist with transferring patients to/from mats, treatment and tilt tables, wheelchairs and other equipment appropriate to the facility/department.b. Transports patients to/from therapy as needed.c. Assists with patient related activities including equipment set-up and patient positioning in preparation for therapy session, consistent with state practice acts for Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech Language Pathology.d. Participates in therapeutic dysphagia and feeding program as requested and supervised by the therapists. Prepares and maintains the department and department equipment in a clean and orderly condition, including disinfecting all equipment and surfaces according to infection control policies and procedures. Ensures maintenance of cleaning logs and temperature logs for therapy department. Supports wheelchair/durable medical equipment management:a. Assists with cleaning/disinfecting of wheelchairs and cushions after each patient use.b. Distributes wheelchairs to new admissions, as requested by therapy department.c. Assists with preventative maintenance and repairs on wheelchair fleet to extend life of equipment and ensure patient safety. Communicates with Therapy Manager and/or Director of Rehab on a timely basis regarding departmental needs, informs department manager of needed supplies, and assists with inventory control and ordering. Establishes and maintains current knowledge of all performance improvement and patient care improvement issues and maintains an active role in monitoring these issues. Participates in departmental meetings and demonstrates understanding of patient satisfaction and safety outcome data. Follows all facility guidelines outlining standards of personal appearance, attendance and punctuality Assists with basic clerical duties as requested. Performs other duties as assigned.
Certified BLS or completion in first 90 days of employment required.
