About the role

The technologist is responsible for preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals and performing various nuclear medicine scans. They must also calibrate equipment, maintain quality control standards, and provide diagnostic data to physicians.

Responsibilities

  • Nuclear Med Tech Job Summary Has training in Nuclear Medicine (NM) studies such as Nuclear Stress Test, Bone Scans, HIDA Scans, Lung scans, Thyroid Scans, Liver Scans, and Brain Scans Prepares facilities in accordance with procedural requirements; calibrates equipment as required by the institution.
  • Calculate, measure and record radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received, used and disposed, using computer and following physician’s prescription.
  • Preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals orally or by injection or inhalation.
  • Starts patient IV's.
  • Explaining the imaging procedure to patients, answering questions, and ensuring their comfort while placing them in the appropriate position for scanning.
  • Accomplish computer processing and imaging enhancement.
  • Provides images, data analysis, and patient information to the physician for diagnostic interpretation.
  • Monitoring the departments daily, monthly, and quarterly QC under the guidelines of the NRC.

Qualifications

Nuclear Med Tech Qualifications Education and Certification

Must be registered in Nuclear Medicine through NMTCB or ARRT. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.

Experience

Training and experience in conducting various NM studies, including Nuclear Stress Tests, Bone Scans, HIDA Scans, Lung Scans, Thyroid Scans, Liver Scans, and Brain Scans preferred but not required.

Skills

Strong technical skills in preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals and operating NM equipment. Excellent patient care skills, including the ability to explain procedures and ensure patient comfort. Proficiency in computer processing and imaging enhancement. Ability to monitor and maintain quality control standards. Exceptional customer service, communication, and teamwork skills. Requirements
