About the role

Perform a full range of radiographic and Computerized Tomography (CT) imaging procedures to assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment. Maintain quality assurance, safety, and infection control standards while managing patient records and emergency situations.

Position Summary

Definition

Under general direction of the Director of Radiology /Manager, performs imaging procedures to aid physician in diagnosis and treatments. Performs other related work as assigned/required.

Class characteristics

Employees within this class perform the full range of radiographic examinations and Computerized Tomography (CT) including the ability to work independently, exercise judgment, and take initiative to complete a specific assignment.

Position qualifications

The education and experience that provides the required knowledge to operate as a Computerized Tomography (CT) Technologist is as listed:

Education

Completion of an ACR or ARRT recognized accredited program in Radiology Technology/Graduate of a JCERT hospital-based radiology technology program is required; Associate’s degree in Radiology Technology is desired.

Experience

A minimum of one year of experience in performing technical work which must have included as primary responsibility: radiographic examinations, and following: computerized tomography (CT).

Licensure/Certification

Possession of valid California CRT license, Fluoroscopy Certification Current BLS through AHA ARRT required Specialized training in CT Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS) requires the following criteria for Licensure/Certification as a requirement to operate a CT scanner: September 1, 2016 - a technologist must possess both an ARRT (RT) and CRT license. January 1, 2018 – a technologist in addition to both ARRT (RT) and CRT licensure must be certified as a Computerized Tomography Technologist (CT) by the ARRT.

Knowledge & abilities

Knowledge of

Hospital established policies quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures.

The more common radiology equipment and instruments used in a hospital setting, basic radiography and Computerized Tomography (CT).

Anatomy and Physiology.

Processing and evaluating quality images. Ability to

Operate equipment used in Radiology, and Computerized Tomography (CT).

Understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, standards, and procedures.

Learn quickly the specific operations of a Radiology Department.

Keep abreast of developments in the field of expertise.

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Prepare and maintain records and reports. (Written and electronic).

Work effectively under stress and in emergency situations.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, physicians and fellow employees.

Manage emergency or crisis situations; requires judgment/action which could result in undesirable patient outcomes.

Age specific competency

Maintains, demonstrates and is assessed on the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for physical, psychosocial and cultural needs appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.

Requirements

Requires completion of an accredited Radiology Technology program and at least one year of experience in radiographic and CT examinations. Must hold a valid California CRT license, Fluoroscopy Certification, BLS through AHA, and ARRT certification in CT.
