About the role

Prepare and maintain the sterile operative area before, during, and after surgical procedures. Assist surgeons by providing instruments, adjusting equipment, and managing surgical counts.

Responsibilities

Works under general supervision in preparing and maintaining the sterile operative area of the patient before, during, and after operation. Places equipment and supplies in OR according to surgeon's preference cards. Assists during surgery in a number of ways such as to don gowns and gloves, adjust surgical equipment, hand surgeon instruments, hold retractors and count sponges, needles, and instruments used during the operation. Keep surgeons preference card information current. Able to clean, decontaminate and sterilize surgical instruments and supplies. Cross trained to function adequately in C.S. and receiving and decontamination.

Qualifications

Work requires proficiency in the application of sterile procedures in an operating room setting. Requires graduation from a surgical technology program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation. Work requires immediate response to emergency procedures which requires individual to respond within thirty minutes to the Hospital, as well as have a phone. Two years experiences is preferred.

Requirements

Must be a graduate of an accredited surgical technology program with proficiency in sterile procedures. Two years of experience is preferred, and the candidate must be able to respond to emergencies within thirty minutes.
