Provide supportive services and teach coping and living skills to adults with serious and persistent mental illness in a residential setting. Responsibilities include administering medications, conducting safety checks, and maintaining detailed client documentation.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences with one year of experience, or specific combinations of supervised experience and credits as defined by Minnesota state standards. Must possess a valid driver's license, CPR/First Aid certification, and pass a background check.
The Mental Health Practitioner (MHP) is responsible for providing supportive services in a residential setting to adults who experience a serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI) and may also experience co-occurring substance use. This role supports clients by utilizing a skills-based approach to promote stabilization and recovery.
Teach coping strategies to support clients in managing their mental health symptoms. Model and teach living skills such as basic hygiene, nutrition, housekeeping, budgeting, and using public transportation. Review client records to gain a clear understanding of history and current needs. Communicate with team members to navigate crisis situations. Administer medications and document in an electronic medical record. Orient new clients to policies and procedures and reinforce as needed. Conduct hourly safety checks. Complete daily documentation each shift. Demonstrate compassion and respect for team members and clients through promoting an inclusive, diverse, and culturally sensitive community. Maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA regulations regarding client information. Required Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of mental illness and the needs of people with mental illness. Ability to develop and maintain receptive, open, and approachable lines of communication with clients and staff, and provide a friendly environment for visitors. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including composing, proofreading, and editing. Presentation and meeting facilitation skills. Ability to work as a proactive and positive member of a team to deliver quality services. Ability to maintain confidentiality of organization, personnel information, and client data. Ability to use sound judgment and maintain healthy professional boundaries. Analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to meet deadlines and set priorities. Proficiency with a variety of web-based software and databases, including Microsoft Office Suite.
The position completes activities in the program office in Dakota or Scott County and will have interactions with clients of the program and the public. Some activities may be required in the community. Travel may be required to other program sites. Prolonged periods at a desk, working on a computer. Manual dexterity for tasks such as taking notes, using technological devices for documentation, or assisting clients with certain activities if needed. Must be ambulatory and able to negotiate stairways. The ability to lift and carry heavy weights that could be up to 25 pounds.
The salary range for this position is between $22 - $25 hourly. The range reflects the minimum and maximum salary for the position. Compensation will depend on the candidate’s professional experience, skills, and relevant education, training, and certifications.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences (social work, psychology, or human services) or a related field from an accredited college or university AND have 2,000 hours (1 year) of experience in the delivery of service to persons with mental illness OR Qualified as a mental health practitioner within the State of Minnesota by one of the following: At least 30 semester/45 quarter credits AND 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the provision of mental health services. OR 4,000 hours of supervised experienced in the provision of mental health services. Additional Requirements: Must not be actively receiving services from Guild and must not have received services within the last two years. A valid Class ‘D’ Driver’s License, reliable vehicle, satisfactory driving record and necessary insurance. Current CPR/First Aid Certification is required. Ability to pass a MN Department of Human Services background check.
