The nurse is responsible for assessing and documenting patient hemodynamic responses and managing care for patients undergoing MRI and special procedures. Key duties include administering medications, monitoring conscious sedation, and ensuring patient safety regarding radiation and chemical exposure.
Candidates must hold a current Florida nursing license and be certified in BLS and ACLS. A BSN is preferred, along with two to four years of clinical experience, ideally including time in a monitored or MRI unit.
Summary: Position Responsibilities Specialty Registered Nurse/Magnetic Resonance Imaging Evaluates, assesses and documents patient's hemodynamic response to therapeutic intervention by accurate cardiovascular monitoring. Reports abnormal findings to physician. Monitors, evaluates, documents and troubleshoots patient's hemodynamic response with use of special procedure equipment. Monitors, evaluates and intervenes appropriately with patients receiving concious sedation. Accurately transcribes, reviews and carry out physician orders. Assesses / Re-assesses as per hospital policy. Competent in the insertion of peripheral intravenous catheters. Demonstrates appropriate safety measures as it relates to potential radiation exposure and flammable chemical. Assesses and implements safety devices pre-intra-post special procedures. Demonstrates proper groin management for arterial sheath interventions Assessment Performs and documents vital signs and initial assessment upon arrival to unit. Performs and documents ongoing Assessment / reassessment. Responds to diagnostic data and initiates appropriate action or intervention. Assesses patient education needs prior to the procedure. Assesses and interacts with patient according to age specific development. Planning Initiates a plan of care upon assessment. Establishes priorities for patient care based on patient needs. Implementation Verbalizes understanding of patient diagnosis and medical and nursing plan of care. Safely and correctly initiates and documents nursing interventions in emergency situations. Prepares intravenous solutions using aseptic technique. Administers, observes, and documents intravenous therapy according to hospital policy. Administers medications as ordered by physician, observes and documents effectiveness, recognizes and reports adverse reactions immediately. Provides individualized instructions to patient regarding the plan of care. Demonstrates safe and correct use of unit specific equipment. Ensures each patient's general hygiene needs. Performs pre-procedure and post-procedure care and instruction for each assigned special procedure patient. Adheres to standard precautions including hand hygene guidelines at all times. Documents specific patient valuables on designated form when received and immediately arranges for appropriate storage. Performs dressing changes using aseptic technique. Collects and labels specimens per policy when ordered by physician. Performs bedside glucose monitoring according to policy. Reports all abnormal findings immediately to physician. Inserts intermittent or indwelling urinary catheter using aseptic technique. Administers oxygen therapy according to physician order. Transfers patients in/out of the unit in an efficient manner, by obtaining a complete and correct set of physician's post-procedure orders. Gives report to receiving unit timely. Demonstrates safe and correct use of restraints as per policy. Evaluation Documents/reports patient responses or outcomes resulting from: nursing interventions, treatments/procedures, interpersonal interactions, and patient/family education. Evaluates and documents patient's progress towards established goals/objectives every shift. Professional and Staff Development Obtains 100% mandatory hospital and unit specific inservice hours, prior to evaluation date. Plans, presents, and documents unit inservice as required by the department. Documents competency in clinical skills, at least annually. Attends staff meetings as required by the department. Uses established lines of communication for resolution of problems and interpersonal conflict. Ensures productivity daily by facilitating patient plan for scheduled procedures. Participates in PI program by identifying PI indicators at unit level. Collects PI data as assigned. Qualifications License/Registration/Certification Current License in the State of Florida. BLS and ACLS required. Education Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. BSN perferred Experience Two to four years clinical experience. One years in monitored and/or special patient care unit preferred, including previous MRI department experience.
