About the role

Provide clinical support for neurology patients, including taking vitals, assisting in exams, and preparing patients for surgery and MRI. Coordinate with owners regarding discharge instructions, scheduling, and post-operative updates.

Neurology Veterinary Assistants play a vital role at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center.

They work alongside our veterinarians and veterinary technicians to provide comfort and care for all our patients.

Our veterinary assistants help during patient exams, blood sampling, catheter placement, and assist in running point of care laboratory tests.

Neurology Veterinary Assistants can take advantage of our career ladder to learn and grow into advanced positions like surgical instrument assistants and patient care assistants.

We also offer tuition assistance to employees wanting to continue their educational goals and the ability to earn externship hours for accredited veterinary technology programs.

We are currently offering a generous sign on bonus for Veterinary Assistant hires.

Duties and Responsibilities

Start appts, first time consults and rechecks. Getting Vitals Entering vitals in records Entering bloodwork Going over instructions on discharges w/ owners Able to put on the Help em up harness and adjusting/teaching owners Bladder expression DEMO w/ owners Speaks to owners on phone Using excel spread sheets to organize post op patient and calling back owners for updates. Scheduling appts Call in medications to pharmacy Holding for urinary catheters Setting up prep for surgery Setting up OR Setting up MRI prep and table Helping with sampling catheters Rolling P into surgery OR Opening surgical instrument packs Scrubbing and preparing for surgery

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent 2 years work experience, preferably in a similar position Must have animal handling experience, and be able to restrain all species Must be able to lift 50 pounds Must be able to work successfully as part of a team Must have ability to remain composed in stressful and emergency situations Must be flexible about working additional hours when necessary Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and communication skills are essential Must be able to follow detailed protocols Must neatly and correctly fill out paperwork as necessary Our comprehensive benefits package includes: Competitive salary Generous sign-on bonus $1,000 Generous paid time off Tuition assistance 50% discount on veterinary care 403b matching Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage You may be eligible for The Public Loan Service Forgiveness Program as we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit employer Pay Range $17.30—$22.55 USD Excellence in veterinary medicine since 1910. Requirements
