Accurately perform specimen collections and testing according to laboratory policy and procedure manuals. Manage computer data entry, workflow monitoring, and maintain phlebotomy inventory and a clean environment.
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and BLS certification through the American Heart Association. National certification (e.g., ASPT, ASCP) is preferred.
The Phlebotomist Accurately and efficiently performs specimen collections and testing as defined by laboratory policy and procedure manuals. Computer data entry and workflow monitoring. Assesses environment to assure patient safety and determines appropriate equipment to use that meet the patient’s needs. Maintains chain of custody for forensic collections. Maintains HRP and pending log lists. Organizes work flow to improve efficiency. Answers phones, faxes reports, maintains phlebotomy inventory. Maintains a clean environment. May drive to offsite locations for specimen collections. Physical Requirements Standing on feet 65% of shift while performing lab test. Sits up to 4 hr/day on chair while doing paperwork. Walking up to 50 yards per day.
