Overview
Performs a variety of tasks in the clinical laboratory that are service oriented. Autoclaves biological infectious waste, washes glassware, delivers or moves light packages on request, does minor housekeeping chores in the laboratory, moves light equipment from one area to another, and performs messenger duties.
Responsibilities
- Autoclave laboratory infectious waste in timely fashion.
- Washes and dries glassware as needed and in a timely fashion.
- Deliver messages and reports to other areas of the hospital as needed.
- Deliver or moves light equipment from one laboratory section to another or from a part of the Hospital to the laboratory.
- Pick up specimens as required.
- Performs light housekeeping tasks as needed.
- Collects dirty laboratory coats, delivers to laundry area, and returns clean lab coats to staff.
- Order and maintain inventory of supplies.
- Makes up and distributes blood culture sets to microbiology.
- Keeps a supply of urine containers for patients in and out of Hospital as needed and directed.
- Changes gas tanks as needed by the various laboratory sections and in a timely fashion.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience
- No prior experience required but some familiarity with a health service provider laboratory preferred.
- Knowledge and
- Skills: Good attention to detail and accuracy needed. Ability to read and speak English required. Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.
- Physical
- Requirements: Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day. Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds.
