• Evening - 08 Hour (United States of America) This is a Stanford Health Care job.
• A Brief Overview The Surgical Pathology Technologist (SPT) dissects tissue specimens and provides dictated placement in plastic cassettes for embedding, staining, and microscopic analysis.
• This position includes coding and accessioning of specimens; processing biopsies and simple tissue specimens according to established protocols; and instruction of trainees in Gross Room and Frozen Room protocols and processes as well as specimen photography (when applicable).
• This position is responsible for providing direct coverage as well as responding on a STAT basis to the frozen section room for all SHC operating rooms and assisting with intraoperative consultations.
• This position prepares and performs specimen radiography of breast, bone, and soft tissue specimens.
• The SPT is also responsible for providing weekend and off-site location coverage on an as needed basis.
• Locations Stanford Health Care What you will do Receives samples via couriers or other hospital personnel.
• Handles patient's samples appropriately and efficiently, distributing to the appropriate area of the laboratory or routing to other hospital departments as needed according to procedure.
• Accessions patient samples into the Laboratory information system(s).
• Checks all requests for proper and accurate patient information.
• Consults with Supervisor or Technologist if request is problematic.
• Notifies physician, nursing unit, clinic, etc. if sample received is inappropriate or compromised.
• Completes a gross examination, dissection, and selection of representative tissue for microscopic examination for designated simple specimens, as defined in the laboratory policy.
• This includes weighing, measuring, and selectively photographing tissue specimens.
• Assists pathologists, fellows and/or residents with intraoperative consultations and fine needle aspiration (FNA) adequacies.
• Performs and assists in allocating tissue from kidney adequacies for EM, IF, and routine pathological processing.
• Ability to cross-train in histology to assist in embedding of tissue for histological exam.
• Ability to cross-train in autopsy and perform waived technical duties, such as evisceration and general upkeep of the autopsy suite.
• Communicates with physicians, nurses, visitors, and other laboratory/ hospital staff in a cooperative and courteous manner.
• Responds to their needs appropriately with minimal waiting time.
• Follows all departmental policies regarding attendance, punctuality, health, and safety.
• Independently resolves problems encountered in routine work.
• Recognizes problems or requests which require Supervisor and/or Lead assistance when appropriate.
• Keeps current with all laboratory procedures, techniques, and changes in all areas of the laboratory through which he or she rotates.
• Meet competency standards of the department.
• Assists in routine and regularly scheduled preventive maintenance for all equipment and spaces according to established procedures.
• Understands patient care and laboratory priorities and independently assists others to ensure efficient workflow.
• Expected behaviors include adaptability to change, collaboration toward common goals, self-motivation, and taking initiative.
• Expected communication skills involve active listening and proper email etiquette.
• Adheres to all Safety/Health regulatory and state/federal legal requirements and policies, operating procedures, and Services Standard of the Hospitals.

• Education Qualifications Bachelors_Degree B.S.. in the biological, chemical, life sciences, medical laboratory technology, or other related field required.
• Experience Qualifications One (1) year of progressively responsible and related work experience preferred Required

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $48.38 - $54.48 per hour The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
