Requires a graduate degree from an accredited seminary or a Master's degree in hospital or pastoral ministry. Candidates must have at least two years of experience working with the terminally ill and familiarity with interfaith practices.

What You’ll Do: Responsible for implementing and coordinating all activities relating to the spiritual care aspects of the hospice program. In addition, he/she will act as consultant to the hospice house team in offering a spiritual component to overall case management. Responsible as a member of the interdisciplinary team for the provision of spiritual support to the patient and family in accordance with their desire and belief system while fulfilling hospice policies. More Specifically: ● Assure spiritual assessment of patients/families/caregivers in the hospice program and appropriate services are rendered in a timely manner. ● Provide ongoing guidance and education to hospice workers that beyond the physical and emotional support we give, our patients may desire to have spiritual resources of their choosing. ● Responsible for encouraging patients and families to make arrangements in advance regarding the funeral, wills, requests, obituaries and interment, and to be available to officiate at funeral services if requested. ● Reports at Inter-Disciplinary Team (IDT) meetings regarding the possibility of spiritual needs of the patient and family and to report interventions. ● Provide, when invited, direct spiritual counsel, prayer and sacraments to patients and their families. ● Interface with the patient/families’ own clergyman, rabbi or their own congregation, if requested. ● To be present at time of death, if requested. ● Provide literature and spiritual resources that may be of assistance to patients and families. ● Complete Bereavement Risk Assessments according to procedural guidelines. ● Serve in weekend rotation for Supportive Services coverage needs. Chaplains take calls and work with the weekend triage nurse to address any urgent supportive service needs. · Daily travel to surrounding communities serviced by the Agency is required to provide care to patient/clients at their homes. Occasionally other local travel may be required to attend meetings, seminars or training programs. · While traveling to off-site meetings, exposure to outside weather conditions is required. What You’ll Need: · Graduate of accredited seminary, school of theology, or with appropriate Master’s degree training in hospital or pastoral ministry; · At least two years of experience working with the unique spiritual needs of the terminally ill; · Familiarity with interfaith practices and ability to work in an interfaith setting with interfaith colleagues. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
