SUMMARY: The Dental Hygienist works closely with the Dentist to meet the oral health needs of patients and lead the CMC Community Oral Health Screening project. The Dental Hygienist reports to the Chief Dental Officer.
Specific
DUTIES: Provide leadership in the development and implementation of CMC’s oral health screening and sealant project. Complete grant reporting requirements as needed to implement project Transport and set up mobile equipment in a school setting Travel to schools and other selected oral health screening sites Conduct assessment of oral health conditions
Identify and write up dental referrals Review of the health history Conduct assessments for oral cancer screening Enter dental procedure information into Electronic Health Records system Remove calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of the teeth Apply preventive materials to the teeth (e.g., sealants and fluorides) Instruct patients of appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health; (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling) Counsel patients about good nutrition and its impact on oral hygiene Making impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth used by dentists to evaluate patient treatment needs) As needed take blood pressure and pulse As needed take dental x-rays
