Position Summary: Information: Duties and requirements

Position Overview

In this role, you will support behavioral health operations within the detention facility by assisting healthcare providers, monitoring resident wellness, and helping coordinate mental health and behavioral support services in a secure detention environment. You will work closely with behavioral health providers, medical staff, nursing personnel, and detention officers to observe resident behavior, document wellness concerns, and support crisis intervention activities while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and compliance with government detention standards and healthcare protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Assist behavioral health providers and healthcare personnel with resident mental health evaluations, wellness checks, counseling appointments, and treatment support activities.
  • Observe resident behavior and monitor for signs of emotional distress, behavioral changes, mental health concerns, self-harm risks, or unusual activity and report concerns promptly to clinical staff.
  • Maintain accurate behavioral health documentation, wellness logs, incident reports, appointment records, and operational notes in accordance with facility procedures.
  • Support crisis intervention activities and behavioral health response procedures during emergencies, psychiatric incidents, or resident wellness concerns.
  • Coordinate resident movement and scheduling for counseling appointments, behavioral health evaluations, and treatment-related services.
  • Assist with intake screenings, behavioral health observations, and routine resident wellness monitoring activities as directed by healthcare personnel.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident healthcare information and comply with HIPAA requirements, behavioral health standards, and facility policies.
  • Ensure behavioral health offices, counseling spaces, and operational work areas remain clean, organized, secure, and properly supplied.
  • Communicate professionally with healthcare providers, detention staff, supervisors, and outside personnel regarding resident wellness and operational concerns.
  • Maintain professionalism, strong observational skills, and effective communication while supporting safe and efficient behavioral health operations within the detention facility.

Qualifications

Must meet one of the following criteria:

A master's or bachelor's degree in a behavioral health field with behavioral health work experience.

An associate degree plus at least one (1) year of full-time behavioral health work experience.

A high school diploma or GED plus at least three (3) years of full-time behavioral health work experience.

Must possess behavioral health experience within a detention, behavioral health, substance abuse, or psychiatric setting.

Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization.

If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition.

Must consent to fingerprinting.

Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English proficiently.

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent

Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening.

Ability to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening.

Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills.

Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations.

Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Work Environment

Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.

Physical Requirements

Employees may be required to remain in a stationary position, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach. Employees may be also required to use gear to move items around, including, but not limited to, carts and dollies. Employees may also be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
