Provides direct nursing care and medication administration for residents in a long-term care setting. Coordinates with healthcare personnel to implement and evaluate integrated health care plans while supervising nursing assistants.
Must be a graduate of an approved RN or LPN program with a current license to practice in the State of Iowa. BCLS certification is required within three months of employment, and nursing home experience is preferred.
Provides direct nursing care for individual residents with common, well-defined nursing diagnosis. Works under the supervision of an R.N. Organizes those aspects of nursing care for which she/he is responsible for.
Reports to: Director of Nursing-LTC
Assigns tasks and directs activities of nursing assistants working in LTC unit.
Duties: and Responsibilities:
1. Gathers data relative to health status of the resident reports to physician and documents appropriately.
2. Renders direct patient care consistent with the level of nursing skills.
3. Uses established channels of communication to implement an effective, health care plan.
4. Organizes the delivery of standard nursing care in order to use time and resources effectively and efficiently.
5. Works with other health care personnel within the organizational structure to manage patient care.
6. Participates in the medical plan of care to promote an integrated health care plan.
7. Evaluates patient responses to nursing interventions and documents appropriately.
8. Maintains accountability for own care and care delegated to others to assure adherence to ethical and legal standards.
9. Plans, promotes and participates in patient education and rehabilitation.
10. Provides general nursing care to patients. Administers prescribed medication and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
11. Participates in non-direct patient care activities including educational activities, quality improvement nursing committees and other related activities.
12. Keeps supervisor informed of changes in patient condition and of care rendered.
13. Demonstrates willingness to support staffing and scheduling needs.
14. Complies with hospital and nursing service policies.
15. Performs functions other than described above due to extenuating circumstances.
a. Maintains a courteous and professional manner in dealing with patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers, as applicable.
b. Shows a positive attitude toward work schedules, department and hospital changes, assignments and other personnel.
c. Presents professional appearance in dress and grooming, complies with departmental dress requirements and wears hospital identification badge.
d. Conforms to hospital policy regarding use of sick time, personal days, notification of absence of tardiness.
e. Is cost effective in utilization in time, equipment and supplies.
f. Willingly cooperates with co-workers and other departments.
Nursing Home experience preferred. Following a formal orientation, proficiency in the assigned clinical area is expected within 3 months.
A graduate of an approved RN or LPN program. Must have current license to practice in State of Iowa. Successful completion of BCLS within 3 months of employment
Requires constant mental alertness and ability to evaluate and detect changes in patient’s condition. Subject to frequent interruptions in performing work.
Will work in a clean, well-lighted, air-conditioned nursing unit. Risks exposure to communicable or infectious disease and injury from performance of assigned duties. Is subject to multiple sensory and environmental stressors.
