Perform comprehensive patient histories and physicals while ordering and interpreting diagnostics in an emergency setting. Collaborate with attending physicians to initiate life support, prescribe medications, and maintain detailed medical documentation.
Requires a Bachelor's degree, NCCPA certification, and a valid Maryland PA license. A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in emergency medicine and current CPR certification are required.
The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking an Sr. Physician Assistant experienced in Emergency Medicine to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health care team.
Perform a comprehensive, accurate history and physical including chief complaint, presenting signs and symptoms, past medical history, and interval history. Recognize abnormal and significant findings and discuss with attending physician as appropriate. Order diagnostics and interpret abnormal findings. Discuss or staff cases with attending physician when appropriate per department standards based on acuity or venue. Initiate Basic/Advanced life support in response to emergency situations. Maintain technical proficiency with approved procedures including suturing, wound care, and orthopedic care. Initiate and prescribe medications. Complete all aspects of medical documentation in accordance with department standards. Arrange consultations and referrals when needed. Attend staff meetings and keep up to date on department protocols, operations, research, and procedures providing input and feedback. Remain proficient in the utilization of commonly used clinical protocols and evidence-based guidelines. Remain abreast of new treatment modalities and technologies within the field of emergency medicine. Provider will work proficiently and autonomously in the various venues of ED. Attention to patient safety, personal safety, and safety of co-workers due to contact with potentially infected body fluids with blood. Use appropriate universal precautions for any contact, droplet, airborne pathogens.
Bachelor's Degree; Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body; Completion of a CAAHEP certified Physician Assistant program. Must be licensed as PA in State of Maryland or other state where practicing. Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Minimum of 3 years experience in related clinical area and obtained proficiency in area of specialty. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Five years related experience.
