  • DESCRIPTION: Highly specialized and educated technologist who performs clinical analysis, microscopic examination, serological tests, microbiological determinations, specialized blood banking procedures, hematological procedures, and other forms of testing on patient specimens for the purpose of diagnosing and following abnormal or diseased states. Medical technologists may be required to work alone and make independent decisions. Follows policies and procedures to ensure overall departmental operations in accordance with the facility’s mission and philosophy. Participates and maintains quality assurance activities to assure highest standards of care.

  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent.

Experience

Must be registered as a medical technologist in accordance with the standards of the Department of Human Resources of Georgia.

  • DEMANDS: Ability to think and work effectively under stress with frequent interruptions; to move, sit, stand, walk and bend intermittently throughout the work day, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must possess sight and hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these sources to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Use of mechanical and technical equipment required for the responsibilities assigned. External and internal applicants who become disabled, must be able to perform the essential job functions either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined on a case by case basis. Position has expected exposure to blood borne pathogens.

Requirements

Requires a 4-year degree and registration as a medical technologist according to Georgia Department of Human Resources standards. Candidates must be able to handle physical demands including lifting up to 50 pounds and working under stress.
