Under the supervision of the Dental Assistant Supervisor and the Dental Manager, this position provides dental assisting at all dental locations as directed. Performs chairside work assisting in the treatment of patients; maintains records of treatments, supplies, and materials; performs related work as required. Performs all patient safety and procedures required of an Expanded Function Dental Assistant including but not limited to the Essential Functions.

FUNCTIONS: Sterilizes dental instruments and equipment by providing back up coverage for sterilization tech as needed. Oils and cleans equipment; cleans dental office and operatory. Maintains proper infection control procedures; wears required PPE per OSHA standards. Prepares patients for treatment by seating, taking blood pressure, and reviewing medical history; presents and witnesses signatures on all appropriate consent forms. Reviews patient chart and ensures all paperwork, x-rays and treatment are current. Accurately inputs patient information into patient chart and adheres to established safety protocols for all procedures. Performs routine laboratory work such as pouring and trimming working models; packages and ships models to appropriate lab; receives and organizes lab cases/slips upon delivery. Keeps current with software specific for electronic dental records, accurately charts each patient’s oral health, treatment plan, and chart notes; ensures consent forms are signed by all persons required, reports missing information in chart to appropriate staff member. Prepares operatories for dental procedure and assists chairside by handing various instruments and supplies to dentist. Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner. Demonstrates initiative and problem-solving skills using sound judgement. Duties: Answer telephone, schedule patient visits; register new patients and screen for eligibility, collect financial, insurance or third-party payer information, collect demographic information, and prepare chart; enter patient packet data, verify accuracy of and scan documents; calculate individual patient charges for services, collect payment and explain payment process, record receipts of fees in practice management system; explain treatment plans. Assist all providers and hygiene team with pre-authorizations, referrals, and prescription requests. Scrub patient charts and work on Gap List. Traveling using a company or personal vehicle to assist at other clinics. Other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or equivalent. Radiology and EFDA certification required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or ability to be certified and maintain certification upon hire. Dental or EFDA experience preferred. Experience with electronic dental records preferred. Knowledge of dental procedures and procedure codes preferred. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, staff, and external partners, both verbally and in writing. Ability to accurately maintain and interpret records related to patient care and dental services. Ability to be cross-trained as a Dental Patient Services Representative. Must have valid Oregon Drivers license and clean driving record.
