About the role

Responsible for cutting, staining, and preparing tissue samples for pathologist review while maintaining accurate records. The role involves operating automated lab equipment and ensuring quality control standards are met.

Overview Responsible for cutting, staining and preparing tissue samples for the pathologist to review. This position is also responsible for prioritizing testing procedures and completing those procedures in an accurate and timely manner and maintaining proper accurate records of all tests done in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations.

Responsibilities

· Use automated equipment and instruments including microscopes, microtomes and other lab equipment. · Receive specimen/tissues from procedures. · Prepare slides of specimens using specified stain to enhance visibility under microscope. · Examine slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements. · Fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax tissue specimens to be preserved for study by Pathologist. · Prepare media, chemicals, reagents and solutions. · Maintain accurate documentation, including computerized documentation, in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations. · Establish and monitor quality control programs. · Maintain inventory of supplies, material and equipment. · Maintain and clean equipment and instruments as per established procedures and manufacturer’s instructions. · Responsible for performing tasks that are within the scope of his/her educational preparation, knowledge and permitted by the policies and procedures of Supplemental Health Care, and other local, state, and federal guidelines; and the policies of the facility requesting the services; including embedding, cutting, and staining FFPE patient tissue. Support APDerm’s mission and culture of high-quality standards by carrying out applicable policies, procedures and established industry standards, laws and regulations. Examples include adhering to privacy and data protection practices, ensuring a safe workplace, and reporting observed or suspected behavior and actions that do not meet APDerm standards. Complete all assigned required training by the deadline including, but not limited the Code of Conduct, Privacy & Data Security, and OSHA.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histotechnician (HT) certificate required or eligibilty preferred Unless otherwise indicated, one year of current experience within the last three years in a comparable job classification required. Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information. Complies with Infection Control, Standard Precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional. Working knowledge of OSHA standards, office procedures, and protocols. The salary for this role will range from USD $36.00 to 54.00 per hour based on full-time employment. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to years of experience, location, relevant skills, training, education, etc. Certain roles may be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation and/or long-term incentives. Requirements

Requires an ASCP Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histotechnician (HT) certificate and preferably a bachelor's degree. Candidates should have at least one year of recent experience in a comparable role and knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA regulations.
