The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing specimen processing, test performance, and result reporting across various laboratory sections. They must maintain laboratory equipment, ensure quality control compliance, and provide accurate documentation of all test results.
Candidates must hold an Associate's Degree in medical laboratory technology and possess a current Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification. Two years of hospital-based experience is preferred, along with ASCP certification.
Maintains responsibility for specimen processing, test performance, test result reporting, clerical and patient care support services with a high level of accuracy, precision and timeliness while ensuring compliance with departmental and regulatory agency standards. Works in two or more laboratory sections, including processing, phlebotomy, and microbiology setups depending upon laboratory needs. Works under the supervision of a Laboratory Supervisor, and in their absence, a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS). Examines and interprets test results to identify abnormal including blood bank, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology, toxicology and urinalysis.
