POC Lab Scientist - Children's Behavioral Health Center (Fall 2026) Department: BHC Support Services
Our NEW Pediatric Behavioral Health Center is scheduled to open in December 2026. Candidates applying for this position should expect a start date after September 1, 2026. All applicants must be 21 years of age or older and provide two professional references as part of the hiring process. Under minimal supervision provide oversite, training, and technical assistance for both moderate and waived complexity point of care testing in both a hospital and ambulatory setting. Activities will include but not limited to operating and maintaining test equipment, monitoring, and evaluating the quality of testing, verifying, and reporting test results, and resolving technical and quality control problems. Additional duties include general and administrative support functions necessary for the routine operation of the laboratory. Essential Responsibilities Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position. Ensures that the test systems are properly functioning. Maintains, troubleshoots, and takes corrective action with equipment as needed. Travel to each site weekly. Completes training and competency assessment of testing personnel. Provide technical and educational guidance for all testing performed. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies and accreditation standards with regards to safety and POC testing for all system laboratory sites. Review, analyze and report on POC testing quality control and compliance data. Compiles monthly and annual compliance and incidence report summaries. Perform validation/verification studies for new instruments, methods, and tests. Assist with maintaining inventory and supplies for the Point of Care testing in all areas. Act a resource for the evaluation, implementation and monitoring of all new POC testing. Monitor POC middleware and software systems for errors. Review and respond to service tickets related to POC instrumentation. Follows guidelines related to Health insurance Portability and Accountability Act, designed to prevent, or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Heath Information. Promotes culture of safety for patients through proper identification, proper reporting, documentation, and prevention of medical errors in a non-punitive environment. Participates in the teaching/training of staff and students. Communicate regularly with managers to relay problems or concerns. Assist in the total quality management in all aspects of training, testing and quality review. Assist in quality assurance and proficiency testing activities. Attend appropriate meetings as assigned. Participates in continuing education. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree or medical technology degree required. Bachelor’s degree must include minimally 60 semester hours or equivalent, that includes either: 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses OR 24 semester hours – 6 chemistry, 6 biology and 12 chemistry, biology, medical laboratory technology any combination. Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS). Master’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (MLS) or related science or healthcare field preferred.
