Provide individual, family, and couples counseling using evidence-based modalities to support positive clinical outcomes. Collaborate with an interdisciplinary medical team to manage psychosocial needs, particularly for bariatric surgery patients.
Requires a Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field and current Massachusetts licensure as a Mental Health Counselor. Candidates should have experience in clinical behavioral health services, specifically with adult populations and medical settings.
Essential Functions Provide individual (adult and/or pediatric), family, and/or couples counseling to patients Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and family members Utilize evidence-based practices to support effective treatment and positive clinical outcomes Assist patients in understanding and modifying behaviors, emotions, and thought patterns Collaborate with bariatric surgeons, physicians, dietitians, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members Participate in case conferences, treatment planning meetings, and program development initiatives Coordinate referrals to community resources, higher levels of care, or specialty behavioral health services as needed Advocate for patients’ psychosocial needs within the medical system Maintain licensure and comply with all state, federal, and organizational regulations Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and program outcomes tracking Deliver individual therapy using evidence-based modalities May provide patient education related to behavioral health, coping strategies, and long-term success following bariatric intervention (when applicable) May facilitate bariatric or behavioral health support groups (when applicable) May conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments for bariatric surgery candidates, including evaluation of mental health history, substance use, coping skills, readiness for surgery, and adherence capacity (when applicable) May provide pre- and post-operative counseling to bariatric patients addressing behavioral change, emotional adjustment, body image, trauma history, and lifestyle modification (when applicable) Deliver individual therapy using evidence-based modalities Assess and manage co-occurring conditions such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, and stress-related concerns Complete required clinical documentation, assessments, and treatment plans in compliance with regulatory and program standards Statement of Other DutiesThis document describes the major duties and responsibilities for this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions. Functional Demands Physical Requirements Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Frequently reaches (extending hands and arms in any direction), and handles (seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or working with hands). Occasionally stoop (bending the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist), crouches (bending the body downward and forward by bending legs and spine). Job Requirements Minimum Education Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW), Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, or another related human services field required. Minimum Licenses and Certifications Current Massachusetts Licensure as a Mental Health Counselor, or eligibility as a Post-Masters Pre-Licensed Clinician required. (LICSW / LMHC preferred) Required Skills Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and interdisciplinary communication skills Minimum Work Experience Experience providing clinical behavioral health services to adult populations Knowledge of eating disorders, trauma-informed care, and health behavior change Familiarity with integrated care or hospital-based settings Experience facilitating groups and/or psychoeducational programming Experience working with bariatric surgery patients, weight management programs, or other medical populations
