The Medical Assistant supports physicians by preparing procedure trays, managing patient flow, and assisting with surgical procedures like Mohs and biopsies. They are also responsible for recording vital signs, managing medical supplies, and handling patient communications.
Candidates must be high school graduates and recent bachelor's degree graduates in a pre-medical or pre-PA track. Experience as a Medical Assistant or CNA and CPR certification are preferred.
Duties/Responsibilities: Escort patient to exam room and confirm first & last name & DOB. Obtain and record vital signs. Organize patient flow. Setup procedure tray, instruments, and equipment according to instructions. Prepare Path/lab specimens, route to correct lab directed by patient insurance plan. Respond to patient questions in office and on phone as instructed. Check to-dos/Nurse line. Understand and obtain MIPS information for each patient. Calibrate, clean, sterilize and inventory all equipment & instruments according to schedule. Keep appropriate records of maintenance. Maintain medication supplies, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records. Maintain infection control and make sure supply rooms and cabinets are stocked. Ordering, sorting, restocking and inventory of all supplies. Document all medical instructions given to patients, thoroughly review wound care with patients when applicable. Anesthesia/Inject for procedures. Assist physician with all surgical procedures including Mohs, excisions, and biopsies. Complete Prior Authorizations on medications. Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail are addressed in a timely manner. Must maintain HIPAA compliance. Other duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills/Abilities: Able to triage patient problems. Be familiar with and compliant OSHA/HIPAA, infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen Standards. Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments. Experience administering injections. Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes. Knowledge of office financial policies. Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization. Able to operate standard office equipment (i.e. computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc) Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluent in English Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful Ability to work in an effective, cooperative, and courteous manner with staff, patients, and visitors. Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction. Ability to spell, sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically. Licensure/Certifications/Education Education and Experience: High School Graduate or GED required. Recent graduate of a Bachelor's degree program in a pre-medical or pre-physician assistant track (required). Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program preferred, but not required. CPR certified preferred. 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other clinical patient care experience preferred. Physical Requirements: Standing and walking for extended periods of time Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing. Use of hands and fingers. Talking and listening in person and on the telephone. Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc. Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds. Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
