The Physician Assistant serves as a First Assist in the operating room and provides comprehensive orthopedic care across inpatient and outpatient settings. Responsibilities include performing patient assessments, managing pre- and post-operative care, and collaborating with surgeons to implement treatment plans.
Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited PA program, NCCPA board certified, and hold an active state PA license. Prior experience in orthopedic surgery and operating room First Assist experience are strictly required.

We are seeking an experienced Per Diem Orthopedic Physician Assistant to support our Orthopedic Surgery team. In this role, the PA will collaborate closely with orthopedic surgeons, providing care in the operating room, inpatient units, and outpatient settings as needed. The ideal candidate will have prior orthopedic experience and be comfortable serving as First Assist during orthopedic procedures. Serve as First Assist in the operating room during orthopedic surgical procedures Perform comprehensive patient assessments, histories, and physical exams Assist with pre-operative and post-operative patient management Participate in inpatient rounding on orthopedic surgical patients when needed Provide outpatient follow-up care for orthopedic patients Order and interpret diagnostic imaging and laboratory tests Perform procedures such as joint injections, splinting, casting, and wound care Collaborate with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment plans Educate patients and families regarding procedures, recovery, and rehabilitation Document patient encounters accurately in the electronic medical record
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program Board Certified Physician Assistant (NCCPA) Active state PA license or eligibility to obtain Orthopedic surgery experience REQUIRED Operating room First Assist experience REQUIRED Ability to work independently and efficiently in a surgical environment Strong clinical judgment and communication skills Why Choose Yale New Haven Health?
