Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients undergoing vascular and vein-related procedures, including pre-procedure assessment and post-procedure education. Collaborate with surgeons and anesthesia providers to coordinate patient flow and ensure safety during arterial and venous procedures.
Requires a graduate degree from an accredited Registered Nursing program, a current RN license, and BLS and ACLS certifications. Previous experience in vascular or procedural nursing is strongly preferred, and conscious sedation training is required.
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing vascular and vein-related procedures in a surgical clinic setting. The RN works collaboratively with vascular surgeons, interventional providers, and other healthcare staff to coordinate patient care before, during, and after both arterial and venous procedures, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Perform comprehensive patient assessments prior to vascular procedures, including review of medical history, allergies, and medications. Provide pre-procedure education and instructions. Administer prescribed medications and IV sedation (as credentialed). Monitor vital signs and patient status during procedures, recognizing and responding promptly to changes in condition. Provide post-procedure care instructions and education to patients and families, including wound care, activity restrictions, and follow-up needs. Continuously monitor patients during and after procedures, with close attention to hemodynamic, EKG, and angiographic data. Assess catheter insertion sites for complications and provide appropriate interventions. Maintain sterile technique and ensure procedure rooms are clean, well-stocked, and compliant with safety and infection control standards. Assist with inventory management and supply ordering for the Vascular Procedure Center. Coordinate with clinic staff and anesthesia providers to manage the procedural schedule and ensure adequate CRNA coverage based on physician needs. Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, medical assistants, vendors, and administrative staff to support efficient patient flow and high-quality care. Manage complex antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapies to ensure patient safety. Triage patient phone calls, provide appropriate nursing advice, and communicate relevant concerns to providers. Ensure all medications are stored and used according to manufacturer guidelines, checking expiration dates and storage conditions regularly. Maintain emergency supplies and medications in compliance with clinical and safety standards. Accurately document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Participate in staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education to maintain professional competencies and licensure. Circulate in the OR during procedures and scrub cases in rotation with the technologist as needed. Act as the on-site problem solver for operational issues within the VPC. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or provider. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Advanced knowledge of vascular and vein procedures, including pre-procedure assessment, sedation, and post-procedure care. Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills to monitor hemodynamic status, recognize complications, and respond appropriately. Knowledge of sterile technique, infection prevention, and patient safety standards in a procedural environment. Strong organizational and coordination skills to manage patient flow, scheduling, and supply inventory. Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and multidisciplinary care teams. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program is required. Current RN license and in good standing with the State Board of Nursing is required. BLS and ACLS certification required. Previous experience in vascular, surgical, interventional radiology, or procedural nursing strongly preferred. Conscious Sedation Training is required or must be completed within three months of hire. Knowledge of biohazard management. PHYSICIAL REQUIREMENTS: Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Ability to assist patients with positioning and mobility. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, and sharp instruments. Requires manual dexterity, visual acuity, and clear verbal communication.
