Requires a high school diploma and current enrollment in an accredited RN/LPN program with completed clinical lab check-offs. BLS certification is required, and one year of healthcare experience is preferred.

Under the supervision and guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN) the Student Nurse Technician (SNT) supports the healthcare team by providing essential, compassionate patient care, including assisting with daily activities, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the hospital. The patient population includes individuals across a variety of units, such as Med-Surg, Psychiatric, Surgical, Critical Care, and Pediatrics. Patients may present with a wide range of medical, surgical, and behavioral health conditions, including post-operative recovery, chronic and acute illnesses, mental health concerns, and pediatric-specific needs. The Float SNT must adapt to the unique challenges of each unit, providing compassionate, individualized care to patients of varying ages, acuity levels, and medical complexities. This role requires a commitment to excellent patient care, communication, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment. Overview of Responsibilities Processes physician orders accurately, swiftly, and proficiently to ensure efficient patient care. Efficiently operates computer systems and software to streamline operations. Compiles charges with precision to ensure accurate billing and records. Utilizes medical terminology accurately in all communications and documentation. Communicates with physicians for clarification of orders, excluding medications, parenteral fluids, and code status. Relays pertinent information to physicians, offices, and other facilities as needed for patient care coordination. Schedules and manages appointments effectively to maintain smooth workflow. Adheres strictly to Code Procedures to maintain compliance and safety. Operates unit communication devices appropriately to ensure effective communication. Contacts staff as directed to support unit operations and efficiency. Safely transports patients as needed to ensure their comfort and well-being. Accurately initiates and maintains records and reports in a timely manner. Organizes and manages medical records, following chart order guidelines, and prepares discharged records for timely pickup. Submits and tracks work orders as necessary to address operational needs. Posts reports on patient charts accurately to ensure proper documentation. Carries out daily responsibilities promptly and without delay to maintain unit efficiency. Adheres to Infection Control Policies, emphasizing diligent hand hygiene to prevent the spread of infection. Assists with patient care responsibilities based on required supervision levels, ensuring assignments align with patient needs, including their condition, age, cultural and spiritual needs, emotional state, and physical or cognitive abilities. Records and monitors vital signs and other metrics to track patient health. Provides comprehensive personal hygiene care, including skin care, bathing, and back rubs to ensure patient comfort and well-being. Ensures turning schedules are implemented for patients with a low Braden score or those at risk for skin breakdown. Ensures food and fluids are available, assists with feeding, and records patient intake and output to maintain nutritional care. Supports patient admissions, transfers, and discharges to ensure smooth transitions. Prepares rooms for admissions, including following isolation protocols when necessary. Responds promptly to patient needs, requests, and call lights to maintain a high standard of care. Independently follows daily routines without delay to ensure efficiency in patient care. Applies ice packs, restraints, and binders as needed to provide necessary patient interventions. Collects specimens and manages drainage devices according to protocol to support patient treatment. Performs post-mortem care with respect and professionalism, ensuring dignity for the deceased. Provides urinary catheter care as directed to ensure patient comfort and hygiene. Assembles necessary equipment and supplies to support diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by physicians or nurses. Reports relevant information and observations promptly to the assigned nurse for appropriate action. Shares responsibility for preparing, properly using, and maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring the unit remains organized and clean. Empties linen hampers regularly to maintain a sanitary environment and promote cleanliness. Administers sitz baths, enemas, and douches as directed to ensure patient comfort and care. Assists patients with bedpan and urinal needs, ensuring comfort and dignity during use. Performs shaving preparations using clippers to ensure patient readiness for procedures. Ensures all fall risk interventions are implemented for patients who are deemed a fall risk to maintain patient safety. Ensures patient rooms are clean, tidy, and free of clutter. Assists with patient handling tasks such as lifting, turning, and transporting patients with care and safety. Engages with staff meetings, ensuring responsibilities are met and necessary content is documented. Education & Experience Minimum education required: High School Diploma, successful completion of clinical lab check-offs at an accredited RN/LPN program. Minimum experience required: enrollment in accredited RN/LPN program. Minimum experience preferred: 1 year experience in healthcare setting.
