Job description
General summary of duties
This position is accountable for performing quality MRI Imaging through the application of advanced technical knowledge while maintaining strict attention to patient care. The patient acuity ranges may vary from stable outpatients to critically ill patients. In addition to performing MRI procedures, the MRI Technologist is responsible for performing Diagnostic Imaging procedures.
It is preferred that the MRI Technologist also have experience in performing CT procedures and/or cross-training to become competent in CT. The Technologist must be flexible to float between modalities throughout a workday. In addition, the Technologist must be flexible in their work schedule as necessary to maintain staffing. This position may also include standby calls on a rotational basis with other Technologists.

A minimum of 2-3 years MRI experience is required
Possess a level of clinical expertise and competency in cross sectional anatomy
Must have the ability to prioritize and respond to critical situation
Essential functions
1. General Clinical Practice
Know and demonstrate proficiency in all MRI and diagnostic x-ray procedures.
Maintains the safety of the MRI suite in conjunction with patients and multidisciplinary staff.
Promotes radiation safety by using the ALARA.
Evaluates examination orders for pertinent clinical information and assesses needs of patient and requirements for the exam in conjunction with the radiologist.
Follows procedure protocols and policies established by the department. Employees also work with Radiologist and other employees on the improvement of protocols as needed.
Employee must be able to be onsite within 45 minutes when scheduled for standby call Employee must be able to recognize emergent patient conditions and act on them accordingly
Assist in the transportation of patients to and from the Imaging Department
Employee must be familiar with sterile fields.
Employee must have proficient venipuncture skills and be able to prepare and administer contrast materials
Coordinates critical patient transport with appropriate nursing personnel as applicable
Collaborates with Patient Services and anesthesia as needed
Ability to assess patient condition; preserve patient safety through proper use of immobilization devices
Identify anatomical orientation, sequencing of images and verify accurate patient identification of images for accurate record retention and archiving
Maintain confidentiality of all patient and facility related information
Employee should have experience in the use of Hospital Informatics Systems such as RIS and PACS
Use computer system in documenting, correctly and accurately, patient information
Verify accurate charge capture for procedures performed
Accurately transcribe physician orders and facilitate correcting mistakes or unclear orders with appropriate people
Report all safety hazards that could harm patients, visitors, or other facility employees
Assist in identifying appropriate indicators for the department’s Quality Improvement programs
Initiate occurrence reports when problems are identified
