Coordinate and deliver nursing services to oncology patients in a clinic setting under RN supervision. Responsibilities include administering medications, performing IV venipuncture, and managing patient data and flow.
Requires a valid California LVN license, IV/Venipuncture certification, and BLS certification. Candidates must have a high school diploma and at least one year of experience in a medical office and with electronic medical records.
$36.00 - $48.00 LOCATION: Castro Valley, Travel is Required. SCOPE: The Medical Oncology Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for the coordination and delivery of nursing services to oncology patients in the clinic setting under RN supervision. Provides specialized nursing care, including: IV skills, medication administration, physician assistance, information gathering, sample collection, patient education, patient follow-up, supply maintenance and consultation.
Administer all medications using correct medication, dosage/amount, route, time, and technique. Utilizes 2 patient identifiers during admission/ process and prior to medication administration. Displays appropriate technical skills for the administration of medications, to include: IV venipuncture skills, subcutaneous and IM injections. LVNs may perform peripheral IV venipuncture only. Perform phlebotomies and blood draws, processes and submits specimens to lab. Record patient data during each patient visit including but not limited to vital signs, height, weight, allergies and medication reconciliation. Assist medical assistants in infusion and in the medical oncology clinic. Document nursing assessments, patient teaching and fluid and medication administration in the electronic medical record. Communicate all pertinent information and any interventions to RN/Physician. Assure nursing charges are accurate and complete. Cross train in lab duties and release labs for infusion clinic. Able to schedule patients and check patients out of clinic with up-to-date appointments and infusion schedules. Maintains orderly and efficient patient flow; Maintain a clean and organized infusion space. Order infusion related supplies. Perform other responsibilities as assigned by Lead RN.
