About the role

The Registered Nurse performs physical health assessments and monitors the medical and psychiatric status of individuals with mental illness or dual diagnosis. They provide health education, oversee medication administration programs, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support patient recovery.

Description and Responsibilities Are you a Registered Nurse looking for an environment that is not an office or hospital setting?

Are you looking for the ability to make connections with your patients and work within an innovative and person-centered domain?

Workdays can be a challenge at times, however, with a pace slower than a hospital setting and the ability to work with people on a long-term basis, Open Sky nurses are provided a unique opportunity for those who are looking for a clinically based, supportive and nurturing role.

We provide opportunities for nurses that are beyond the four walls of an institutional setting, as you work within residential and community settings, focusing on recovery-based care for people diagnosed mental illness or dual diagnosis.

Adult Community Clinical Services is a Department of Mental Health funded service that is designed to deliver evidence-based interventions within a clinically focused model.

Individuals served are diagnosed with mental illness or dual diagnosis and reside in their own homes, apartments, or in group living environments.

Our services focus on helping people transition to a more independent environment while maximizing their natural supports by building skills and achieving personal goals.

The teams are tight knit, supportive and multidisciplinary.

Open Sky’s talented clinicians, substance use counselors, nurses, peer staff, housing counselors, outreach counselors, and direct care staff provide quality, compassionate care to individuals served.

The Registered Nurse collaborates with the integrated team to complete thorough physical assessment of health needs, referrals to appropriate community physicians/health care providers, and monitor medical/psychiatric status of individuals served by observing and interviewing individuals, examining documents, and making recommendations.

Other Key Responsibilities: Provide training and consultation to programs regarding medical issues, procedures and techniques, and health and wellness practices.

Assess and provide individualized education related to person’s health and disease processes; reinforce wellness and preventative health measures.

Review clinical records on a regular basis to ensure adequate services and supports are provided, including any applicable medical interventions, tests, or preventative care as necessary.

Provide oversight to the Medication Administration Program and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

Market context

Massachusetts nursing roles remain highly competitive

In Massachusetts, nursing roles often draw steady demand, especially in specialty settings like oncology where prior RN experience can matter. These positions are competitive because employers commonly look for an active RN license, an ADN at minimum, and prefer candidates with oncology background and a BSN. Review the AI-summarized requirements and benefits on this platform to save time, then tailor your application to highlight oncology experience, licensure, and any relevant advancement or recognition achievements.
