Practice for this role

About the role

Provide comprehensive support for feline patients, including handling, restraint, and assistance with diagnostics and surgery. Manage client communication and education while supporting the overall treatment workflow in a cat-exclusive hospital.

4-Day Work Week. All Cats, All the Time.

We're a feline-exclusive, AAHA-accredited hospital in West Hartford, CT, built from the ground up around how cats experience veterinary care.

Quieter rooms.

Slower pace.

Handling techniques designed specifically for feline patients, not adapted from dog protocols.

It's a calmer environment for cats and for the people who work here, too.

We're looking for a Veterinary Assistant who already has some hands-on experience and is excited to keep growing. Someone who leads with kindness, communicates well, stays curious, and genuinely enjoys building relationships with clients and coworkers, not just checking tasks off a list.

What you can expect from us

  • 4-day work week - real time to rest and recharge
  • Flexible scheduling for the right candidate
  • Strong mentorship and a real culture of continued learning
  • Collaborative coworkers
  • Calm, quiet, cat-only environment
  • Advanced feline diagnostics and medicine you can learn alongside
  • Clients who deeply value the relationships they build with the team

What you'll help with

  • Feline patient handling and restraint
  • Exam room support
  • Client communication and education
  • Laboratory sample support
  • Diagnostics and treatment workflow
  • Technician appointments
  • Surgery and anesthesia support
  • Care for hospitalized or I-131 patients (if trained and interested)

Our tools and technology

  • IDEXX ProCyte, Catalyst DX, and Sedivue
  • Zomedica Truforma feline-specific diagnostics
  • Ultrasound (including a traveling ultrasonographer for echocardiograms)
  • Digital radiography and dental radiography
  • Companion laser
  • Radioactive iodine (I-131) treatment program
  • Advanced feline diagnostics and second-opinion consults

You might be a great fit if you

  • Are compassionate, adaptable, and emotionally intelligent
  • Already have some veterinary experience and want to keep building on it
  • Get excited about learning the "why" behind feline behavior and care
  • Want to grow long-term with a team and client base that notices and appreciates you

Compensation

$17–22/hour, based on experience.

Benefits

Our Comprehensive benefit package includes

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with a total company match up to 4%, after 6 months of employment
  • Generous paid time off and flexible scheduling
  • Continuing education allowance and professional development support
  • Mental Health Resources
  • Company paid bonding leave or applicable state provided bonding leave
  • Perks for Your Pets Too! Because we know how much your pets mean to you, we offer special benefits designed just for them:
  • Pet Care: Discounts on veterinary services and products
