Perform screening, diagnostic mammographic, breast intervention, and bone density exams while providing direct assistance to physicians. Ensure optimal patient safety and image quality by adhering to established breast exam standards and guidelines.
Requires an Associate of Applied Science or graduation from an accredited Radiography program, along with ARRT-R, ARRT-M, MRT, and BLS certifications. No prior experience is required, although one or more years is preferred.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Associates of Applied Science OR Graduate of an accredited Radiography Program. Individuals who graduated from an accredited Radiography program prior to 2015 are exempt from the Associate’s Degree requirement. 8 hours initial digital training. 8 hours initial tomosynthesis training. No experience required. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT-R) American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT-M) Texas Medical Board certification (MRT) American Heart Association (BLS)

The Mammography Technologist I position works independently to complete screening, diagnostic mammographic, breast intervention & bone density exams. This includes common and special mammographic exams of moderate complexity. This position provides direct assistance to physicians with all diagnostic and special breast procedures. This mammography Technologist I position delivers exceptional patient care and adheres to breast exam standards and guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service. This position is a member of the direct patient care team. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Promotes a positive work environment. Collaborates with all members of the patient care team. Proactive in responding to patient needs. Optimizes protocols to provide for better patient care, image quality and patient experience. This includes positioning, collimation, physiology, procedure preparation, technical factors and appropriate use of lead shielding. Assists physicians during procedures, including assisting with sterile technique. Utilizes AIDET incorporating Key Words and MANAGE UP techniques, when speaking to patients and family members at an age-appropriate level. Performs screening, diagnostic, breast intervention and bone densitometry procedures to include common & special exams of moderate complexity. Practices radiation safety and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) Follows safety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly. Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures. Complies with job role, department and hospital safety standards, practices and policies. Participates in WASTE walks and supports department LEAN projects. Reports near misses and inputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patient safety reporting system to improve processes and identify trends. Performs imaging equipment quality control (QC) at required intervals to ensure all imaging equipment is in safe working order prior to use. Utilizes critical thinking skills to observe and proactively address patient reactions (i.e. medications) or potential outcomes and obtains assistance, as appropriate. Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures. Enters charges at the time service is delivered. WORK SCHEDULE: PRN, up to 19.99 hours per week with no benefits. Must be willing to work occasional Saturdays at Galveston Campus.
