The Pathology Assistant independently performs or assists in the grossing of anatomical histology samples under a pathologist's supervision. They are responsible for specimen accessioning, operating tissue processing equipment, and maintaining a safe, clean laboratory environment.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Science/Biology or an Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and in-depth knowledge of regulatory standards such as CLIA, OSHA, and CAP are required.

The Laboratory Pathology Assistant, under general supervision of a pathologist, independently performs or assists in the grossing of histology samples. The Laboratory Pathology Assistant must ensure that all quality control measures in the pre-analytic phase are met. These specimens are all potential biohazards, hence the importance of complying with proper handling standards.
