About the role

Operates CT and routine diagnostic radiology equipment to produce high-quality images for physician diagnosis. Manages patient preparation, positioning, and flow while monitoring patient condition during examinations.

Job Description

Operates Computed Tomography and Routine Diagnostic Radiology equipment in accordance with standard operating policies and procedures. Prepares patient for exam, ensures enough information has been obtained for the physician to make a diagnosis; assists in the management of patient flow and presents images mounted for physician diagnosis. Assists Staff in transferring patients to and from bed/stretcher/wheelchair/imaging equipment.

Job Responsibility

Prepares patient for examination.

Explains procedure in layman terms to relieve patient of pretesting anxiety.

Sets-up equipment to administer the procedure.

Ensures patient is screened according to protocol, and assures consent for the procedure has been obtained, when necessary.

Performs CT / DX procedures to include: abdominal, thoracic, all neuro exams, extremities, sub-periosteal implant planning.

Places patient on the exam table and positions within the gantry.

Keys in patient history data and other pertinent information obtained from a requisition including anatomical area of interest, slice thickness and pulse sequences.

Calculates the number of scans to be obtained based on patient size and operates the equipment ensuring the required images were obtained as ordered by the Radiologist.

Contacts Radiologist to review and ascertain whether additional scanning is required.

Operates equipment for the transfer of computed images to film, the archival of disc memory to tape and proper use of PACS.

Assists the physician with administration of I.V. contrast.

Operates Radiology Information System to assure the processing of accurate information.

Monitors patient condition.

Maintains observation of the patient during the entire examination.

Recognizes and reports to the physician, changes in the patient's condition and/or motor abnormality complaints by the patient including: fainting, discoloration, etc.

Performs minor repairs and frequent calibration checks and adjusts equipment, when necessary.

Troubleshoots mechanical problems of the equipment by performing minor repairs, as necessary.

Recognizes and reports major problems to Supervisor to ensure resolution.

Assists in patient flow including, but not limited to, scheduling CT exams; sending for patient; tracking patient using the information system; and completing CT exams.

Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.

New York State Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist.

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Registered Technologist (R.T.) required for positions filled after September 5, 2010. ARRT registration in Computed Tomography (CT) required within eighteen (18) months of entry date into positions filled after September 5, 2010.

Minimum six (6) months experience as a Radiology Technologist, required. Previous CT experience, preferred.

Requirements

Requires graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology Program and New York State licensure. Must be ARRT registered, with CT registration required within 18 months and at least six months of experience as a Radiology Technologist.
