Ophthalmic Technician

Job Description

Performs initial examination, diagnostic and other ophthalmic testing procedures such as ultrasonography, perimetery, etc. using a variety of ophthalmic instrumentation. Maintains and calibrates equipment and supplies. Assists professional staff with examinations and minor surgical procedures.

Job Responsibility

• 1.Performs initial examination of all patients including assessing visual acuity, obtaining medical/ophthalmic history, measuring optical power, retinoscopy and refraction.
• 2.Performs diagnostic and other ophthalmic testing procedures on patients, such as ultrasonography, perimetry, visual function (VER, ERG, EOG, and Dark adaptonmetry), biometry, tonometry and tonography.
• May also be trained in other instrumentation.
• 3.Schedules patient appointments testing.
• Maintains records and appropriate statistical data.
• 4.Maintains and calibrates equipment and supplies in clean and orderly condition.
• 5.Assists professional staff with examinations and minor surgery including instructing patients on Physician's orders.
• 6.Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Ophthalmic Technician certification, preferred.
• OR-
• Minimum of two (2) years full time Ophthalmic Technician experience.
