About the role

Manage the care of critically ill adult patients as part of an interdisciplinary team. Responsibilities include evaluating acute illnesses, ordering diagnostic tests, prescribing treatments, and performing invasive procedures.

Overview

The Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) demonstrates the knowledge and clinical expertise necessary to manage the care of critically ill adult patients. The APP functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary critical care team, working in close collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care. Responsibilities include evaluating and treating acute illnesses and injuries, ordering and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests, prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments, and performing invasive procedures in accordance with established protocols, policies, and evidence-based practice standards. The APP participates in the assessment and management of new admissions to the critical care unit and provides expert education, consultation, and patient advocacy to ensure optimal outcomes. Three 12-hour shifts per week.

Qualifications

Licensed to provide either advanced practice nursing services in the State of Illinois as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act OR physician assistant services as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Physician Assistant Practice Act of 1987 Licensed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and State of Illinois for prescribing of narcotics. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) 2+ years of critical care patient management experience Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hospital environment while maintaining patient-centered focus. Range shown should be used as an estimate and can be impacted by many factors including but not limited to the critical need of the position, overall experience and qualifications, community need, and other considerations. Additional compensation components may be applicable such as bonuses or incentives which may or may not be based on metric achievement.

Requirements

Requires a valid Illinois license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant and DEA licensure for narcotics. Candidates must have ACNP certification, BLS and ACLS certifications, and at least 2 years of critical care experience.
