About the role

Provide comprehensive outpatient pediatric care, including diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses for patients from birth to 16 years. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to provide family-oriented preventative and curative services.

Position Summary

Performs specialized health services, examining, diagnosing, and treating both in-patient and out-patient pediatric patients, usually ranging from birth through 16 years, within a health center setting. A significant aspect of the job involves working as part of a team with professional and paraprofessional staff which is family oriented and is directed toward a preventative and orientative role to promote better understanding between staff and those served by the health center.

Detailed Description of Position

Examines, diagnoses, treats, and generally cares for pediatric patients on an out-patient basis: may visit pediatric patients in hospitals to render port-natal, curative, therapeutic and diagnostic services.

Works with professionals and Para-professionals, including nurses, social worker, mid-level practitioners and medical assistants as part of a team approach to meet the various interrelated needs of families and individuals under care.

Provided pre-school children with a complete medical health assessment for auditory, visual and dental defects: any other problems which may interfere with the child’s performance are also evaluated.

Treats all types of acute and chronic illnesses which are followed until the condition has either been resolved or stabilized.

Participates in educational classes for nurses and medical assistants.

Acts as consultant and guide to other physicians in the treatment of children.

Monitors the quantity and quality of patient care of the mid-level provider in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer.

Manages and/or follow patients of Southside Center’s mothers.

Maintains abilities to perform newborn resuscitation adequately.

Maintains active hospital privileges to hospitals which Southside’s Director of Health Services determines the staff will maintain privileges.

Performs related work as required and other duties assigned by Chief Medical Officer.

Participated in health fairs.

Attends scheduled staff meetings and participates in other committee meeting as assigned.

Ability to function independently, attends to detail, work under pressure and prioritize multiple projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to diagnose and treat pediatric illnesses.
  • Ability to communicate with patients and medical staff
  • Knowledge of agency activities for referral purposes.

Minimum Qualifications

M.D. degree with specialization and residency in Pediatric Medicine and Georgia License, current D.E.A. certificate. Must be able to be insured by a malpractice carrier. Must be able to maintain active hospital admitting privileges.

Typical Physical Demands

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time.

Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Requires normal visual acuity and hearing.

Requires exposures to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.

Requires working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours.

Typical Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Requirements

Must possess an M.D. degree with specialization and residency in Pediatric Medicine and a current Georgia medical license. Candidates must hold a current D.E.A. certificate and be eligible for malpractice insurance and hospital admitting privileges.
