Provide spiritual, emotional, and relational care to patients, families, and healthcare professionals in a clinical setting. Mentor ACPE interns and lead clinical ethics functions to support decision-making in complex healthcare dilemmas.
Requires a Master of Divinity or equivalent and board certification (or eligibility) from APC, NACC, or NAJC. Must have completed four ACPE units and hold endorsement from a recognized faith group.
Education: Master of Divinity degree or equivalent academic credit as determined by the Association for Professional Chaplains (APC) Licenses/Certifications: Board certified, or in the process of obtaining certification (within three [3] years) with the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC)/BCCI, National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC) Experience / Knowledge / Skills: One (1) year of prior chaplaincy experience preferred Completion of four (4) units in an accredited Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) program Endorsement by a recognized faith group for chaplaincy Ability to provide perceptive, sensitive, and effective care in a setting with diverse abilities, beliefs, cultures, ethnicities, and identities Principal Accountabilities Provides spiritual, religious, emotional, and relational care to patients, families, and healthcare professionals Mentors and coaches ACPE interns and residents Interacts with various departments and medical staff, both providing and receiving information, to ensure the appropriate integrated holistic care of patients and families Participates in and provides leadership for clinical ethics functions by providing education, guidance, and support to physicians, patients, families, and healthcare professionals involved in the decision-making process within the realm of the ethical dilemmas inherent in healthcare Participates in ongoing quality improvement processes to ensure The Joint Commission (TJC) standards pertaining to spiritual care are adequately addressed by Chaplaincy Services Develops and maintains relationships with faith communities to facilitate their ministry to entity patients and families, while following federal regulations for patient privacy Participates in system and entity planning and implementation of Chaplaincy Services objectives; participates in entity, system, and division committees as assigned Adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards, within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service Demonstrates commitment to the Memorial Hermann mission, vision, values, and services standards in performing all job duties Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences.
