Provide speech and language pathology services, including evaluations and therapy for patients of all ages. Act as a liaison between the hospital and the community while developing new caseloads and programs.
Requires a Master's degree in speech-language pathology and a valid California State Speech Pathologist License. Preferred experience includes 2-3 years in an acute care hospital or healthcare setting.
Summary: Provides speech/language pathology services, including evaluation, therapy administration, and/or counseling of clients and family regarding communicative profiles. Acts as a speech/language pathology liaison between Hearing & Speech/Hospital and community. Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions: Job Specifications: Education: Masters' Degree or equivalent in speech and language pathology or in communication disorders, as shown by valid California State Speech Pathologist License Experience: 2-3 years progressively increasing responsibility experience as a speech and language pathologist in an acute care hospital or health care setting, preferred. License and Certifications: Licensed Speech Pathologist Required at hire Integrative Agitation Management (IAM) Required within 30 days of hire Integrative Agitation Management (IAM) Required within 30 days of hire Prerequisite Skills: Ability to establish rapport, counsel objectively and in a positive manner, explain test results and therapy plans in a manner consistent with the family's, staff's or client's communication ability, and ability to ask which will give the most pertinent information Must have knowledge of all aspects of speech/language pathology, learning disabilities, non-verbal communication systems, normal human development and, laws which govern the profession Must have the ability to develop, research, write and present instructive information for medical rounds, public groups and organizations, and other professions Primary Customer Served (Age Specific Criteria): (X) Infants: Birth up to 1 year (X) Toddlers: 1 up to 3 years (X) Preschool Children: 3 up to 6 years (X) School Age Children: 6 up to 12 years (X) Adolescents: 12 up to 18 years (X) Early Adults: 18 up to 45 years (X) Middle Adults: 45 up to 61 years (X) Late Adults: 61 up to 80 years (X) Late, Late Adults: 80 years and up Employees in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care and/or service based on the physical, psych/social, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her service group. The protected health information a person in this position can access includes demographics, date of service, insurance/billing, medical record summary information, and all other information that may be contained in patient records. This position requires patient health information to perform the functions outlined as part of this position description.
Essential (Not Modifiable) Evaluate and/or provide therapy to all persons referred who have communicative disorders Provides services to patients of all ages, from infant to extreme age, using evaluation tools and therapy techniques selected to be appropriate for specific age, either chronological age or functional age Writes reports to physicians and/or agencies about findings of evaluations and recommendations Follows-up calls on those released from therapy Performs minimum of five hours of patient contact/day Attends staff meetings Provides information to department manager regarding process of schedule management and unusual patient contacts Consults with staff about mutual patients Develops new caseload and new programs Secondary (Modifiable) Provides in-service information to hospital staff Participates in Interdisciplinary Team to coordinate efforts of all departments in rehabilitative process for patient Participates in community relations activities Speaks with public service groups regarding communicative disorders Provides in-service to groups who have contact with the communicatively impaired Speaks with parents of preschool children Provides workshops discussing techniques to enhance speech and language development Other duties as assigned Accommodation: Qualified applicants with disabilities may request reasonable accommodation during the application process by contacting Human Resources at 415-925-7040 or TalentAcquisition@mymarinhealth.org.
