Assists nursing and medical staff with patient care duties including vital signs, EKGs, and basic wound care. Responsible for documenting care in electronic medical records and maintaining department supplies.
Requires a high school diploma and at least one year of clinical experience in emergency or urgent care settings. Must possess or obtain Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist certifications and Basic Life Support certification.
Assists nursing staff by performing designated duties related to patient care in a manner conducive to their safety, comfort, and welfare (obtains vital signs, EKGs, basic wound care, etc). Documents care in electronic medical record. Maintains supplies per department standards. Demonstrates good knowledge and practice of sterile and isolation techniques. Assists with instructing patient in crutch walking. Applies splints and orthopedic appliances under the direction of the RN or practitioner. Functions as a phlebotomist as directed by the RN or practitioner.
Two (2) years of clinical experience in an emergency department or urgent care setting. Medical Assistant-Certified credential or Interim Medical Assistant-Certified credential by date of hire/transfer. Washington State Department of Health issued credential. Interim credential expires one (1) year from date of issuance. Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program. EMT training. MA training.
