The Respiratory Care Assistant is responsible for cleaning, sterilizing, and calibrating critical respiratory equipment and ventilators. They also supervise respiratory aids, audit charting for accuracy, and manage supply stocks to ensure quality healthcare services.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be currently enrolled in an accredited respiratory program. The role requires the ability to work in an environment with potential exposure to blood-borne diseases.
The Respiratory Assistant cleans and disinfects patient equipment, sterilizes reusable equipment prior to reuse, assembles and performs basic calibrations on ventilators and other critical respiratory equipment, supervises and trains the respiratory aids, audits charges and charting for accuracy, ensuring the provision of quality respiratory services by the department. The Assistant utilizes all equipment, supplies, and resources in a prudent and efficient manner, maintains stock in respiratory supply areas throughout the facility, and complies with safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards in an effort to ensure that high quality health care services are provided by the department and hospital.
