Summary/Objective The Lab Office assistant/transcriptionist performs routine yet varied clerical tasks, including proficient data entry and some routine laboratory assistant procedures.
Essential Functions
Transcription of pathology details and entry of final reports.
Answers telephones, routes callers, and takes messages, all in a courteous manner.
Interacts professionally and courteously with physicians' offices to resolve any issues regarding Pathology requisition forms.
Tracks and orders inventory and gross room supplies as needed. Ships and receives packages.
Performs computer entry, receives, logs in, and handles specimens responsibly.
Assists in specimen accessioning when available and needed.
Works well in a team environment to accomplish everyday tasks in a collegial manner
Appropriate and professional communication and behavior toward patients and customers.
Other duties as assigned.
Education - This position requires completion of at least a High School Degree or equivalent.
Experience – Must have an understanding of lab protocol and procedures.
Communication – Excellent oral communication and writing skills
Work Style - Must be able to work well independently, but ask for help when needed. Ability to analyze and interpret information, interact, and decipher information telephonically and electronically.
